[6] SKYSCRAPER ROOFTOP. BATMAN is looking over the city. Rolls
up his glove to reveal a watch. The time is 9:27.
[7] COMMISIONER GORDON’S OFFICE. COMMISIONER GORDON is arguing
with DETECTIVE BULLOCK. [AD-LIB ARGUMENT] BATMAN appears in the window. Both
GORDON and BULLOCK turn to see him.
Batman:
Talkin’ about me?
Detective
Bullock:
The Batman!
BULLOCK pulls out his gun. BATMAN throws his BAT-LINE around his
arm.
Commissioner
Gordon:
That’s enough Harvey! (Turns to Batman) Why are you here?
Batman:
I need your help.
Commissioner
Gordon:
With what?
Batman:
As far as I can see, we have two problems in this city.
Batman:
(Cont.)
One is Sal Maroni. He has hit many people in this town. He’s a
drug dealer, thief, and a murderer. We get him in front of Dent, and he’ll
plead mercy instead of guilty.
Detective
Bullock:
You know Harvey Dent?
Batman:
Not personally but I here he’s the best District Attorney in
Gotham.
Commissioner
Gordon:
What’s the second problem?
Batman:
I’m not sure who he is, but he calls himself The Red Hood. His
goons were the men I took care of at the Gotham Tower.
COMMISSIONER GORDON’s phone starts ringing. GORDON picks it up.
Commissioner
Gordon:
(Into the phone) Yes, Bonny? (Beat) She is? (Beat) Yes of
course. (Turns to Bullock) It’s Barbra my daughter. (Into phone) Hi honey. I
wasn’t expecting you till next Monday. (Beat) Well sure, come on down. I’ll
send the Chief to get you. All
Commissioner
Gordon: (Cont.)
right, love you too. (Puts down the phone) Bonny!
A young woman comes in.
Bonny:
Yes Commissioner?
Commissioner
Gordon:
Send Chief O’Hara here immediately.
Bonny:
Yes sir.
Batman:
Is that all she knows to say, yes?
Commissioner
Gordon:
Very sarcastic huh?
Batman:
(Shrugs) I guess. What do you know about Maroni?
Commissioner
Gordon:
Not much I’m afraid. We do know that he has most of the
criminals in his gang. He has escaped several times out of the state
penitentiary. He’s from New York, and that’s it.
Batman:
I know that he was in Metropolis for a while till Superman came
into town. Oh by the way watch the mail.
Commissioner
Gordon:
Why?
Batman:
I’m sending you something.
Someone knocks on the door.
Commissioner
Gordon:
Come in.
CHIEF O’HARA comes in. He is Irish.
Chief
O’Hara:
You wanted to see me Commissioner?
Commissioner
Gordon:
My daughter is back in town, Chief. I would like you to pick her
up at the hotel on 3rd and elm.
Chief
O’Hara:
Yes Commissioner.
CHIEF O’HARA starts to leave. GORDON stops him.
Commissioner
Gordon:
Before you go Chief O’Hara, I’d like you to meet-.
BATMAN’s gone. CHIEF O’HARA doesn’t understand.
Chief
O’Hara:
Meet who Commissioner?
Commissioner
Gordon:
(Hushed) Guess he had some work to do. No one thanks.
Chief O’Hara:
Okay. Bye.
DETECTIVE BULLOCK gets out of the BAT-LINE. COMMISSIONER GORDON
sits at his desk as BULLOCK walks up to it.
Detective
Bullock:
Well what do you think of Batman now Commish?
Commissioner
Gordon:
What do you mean?
Detective
Bullock:
He knew more about Maroni than we ever did. How else would he
have known that Maroni is a drug dealer, which nobody does, unless he’s workin’
for him?
Commissioner
Gordon:
He beat us to Gotham Tower before we knew what was going on, and
those boys work for the Red Skull?
Detective
Bullock:
Hood.
Commissioner
Gordon:
Well whatever it is. I hope that Batman will prove you wrong. He
seems to be a good symbol for this city. What with all the crime that’s been
going on over the years.
[8] AT THE HOTEL ON 3RD AND ELM. CHIEF O’HARA and
BARBRA GORDON come out of the hotel, while four of MARONI’S HENCHMEN watch in
their car from a distance. They put their ski masks on.
M. Henchman
1:
Now.
The HENCHMEN get out of the car, and walk with guns in their
hands, towards CHIEF O’HARA and BARBRA GORDON.
M. Henchman
2:
Alright hands up man.
Chief
O’Hara:
What’s going on here?
M. Henchman
3:
Give us your wallet, and the purse.
CHIEF O’HARA and BARBRA hesitate. All four HENCHMEN shake their
guns.
M. Henchman
3:
Now!
CHIEF O’HARA and BARBRA give their things up.
Chief
O’Hara:
Alright now will you be lettin’ us go?
M. HENCHMAN 1 motions gun towards BARBRA.
M. Henchman
1:
The boss wanted us to grab the girl too.
BARBRA clings to CHIEF O’HARA.
Barbra:
No!
M. HENCHMAN 4 grabs BARBRA by the arm and pulls her away from
CHIEF O’HARA. M. HENCHMAN 4 puts the gun to her back. She’s so scared she can’t
move. M. HENCHMAN 2 motions toward O’HARA.
M. Henchman
2:
What should we do with Mr. Leprechaun here?
M. Henchman
3:
Kill him.
BARBRA faints.
M. Henchman
4:
She fainted!
M. Henchman
1:
The boss didn’t want anyone hurt. (To O’Hara) You can do
something for us O’Hara.
M. HENCHMAN 1 gives CHIEF O’HARA a folded up note.
M. Henchman
1:
Give it to Gordon.
M. HENCHMAN 1 turns toward the rest of the HENCHMEN and motions
them back to the car. CHIEF O’HARA stands there watching them leave. He turns
to his car, but runs into BATMAN upside down in front of him.
Batman:
¡Hola!
Chief
O’Hara:
(Startled) Who are you?
BATMAN gets down.
Batman:
I’m the Batman.
Chief
O’Hara:
You’re Batman?
BATMAN nods.
Chief
O’Hara:
Oh, Miss Gordon was taken-.
Batman:
(Interrupts) I know. I saw the whole thing.
Chief
O’Hara:
Then why didn’t you-.
Batman:
They’re gonna take her to Maroni’s hideout. I’m gonna follow
them.
Chief
O’Hara:
How do you know they were Maroni’s men?
Batman:
The Red Hood’s henchmen wear red hoods; Maroni’s henchmen wear
ski masks. All there goons wear sunglasses. Take the note to Gordon, but do
nothing else. I’ll get them.
Chief
O’Hara:
How? You’re just standing there?
Batman:
I’m waiting for my ride.
CHIEF O’HARA doesn’t get it until the BAT-MOBILE drives up to
them. BATMAN gets in and drives away. CHIEF O’HARA looks at the note, gets into
his car, and drives away.
